About This

  • A somewhat rare dwarf cultivar of the bottlebrush tree, Little John is a miniature, slow-growing form that matures at 3 to 4 feet tall. It is an excellent choice for a low hedge or accent plant, or in any application where a low-growing, mounding shrub is needed.
  • This plant is known for its bright, vibrant, blood-red, bottlebrush-shaped cones of flowers. The blooms are present from mid-spring until late fall, attracting butterflies, bees, and especially hummingbirds, making it a great choice for pollinator gardens.
  • Care: A very easy-to-grow plant once well established, but needs careful attention to watering until the root system fully matures. It thrives in a full sun location with well-drained soil. Prune after flowering to maintain its shape and control its size, and fertilize with a quality slow-release fertilizer annually in the spring.
  • Indoor Growing: The Little John Bottlebrush is very well suited for potted culture, and can be used to create beautiful large outdoor garden pots, but is recommended only for experienced growers with the ability to modify their indoor growing area to accommodate its requirements for bright, direct, full spectrum light, day/night temperature differentials, and ambient humidity.
